About the Series

Stories from the Garden is a ten-book picture book series for children ages 4–8, featuring lyrical, rhyming storytelling paired with hand-painted watercolor illustrations. All stories are set in the backyard garden of the artist woman, a recurring character throughout the book series. Each book follows the lives of the small creatures who live within the garden. From caterpillars and butterflies to mice and birds, each story navigates themes of individuality, courage, growth, friendship, and the gentle wisdom nature offers to those who listen.
The recurring character, the artist woman, is based on my own mother at my childhood home. As she tends the garden in each story, children will see some characters reappear from previous stories and learn about new characters each book. By connecting the creatures’ adventures with the creative, nurturing world of humans, children will be able to immerse themselves into the world of the artist's garden.
The series draws inspiration from my childhood spent exploring the garden, observing its tiny inhabitants, and creating stories about the lessons they taught me. With each adventure, nature became my teacher, and now I hope to share that same wonder with young readers.
Through these stories, my aim is to invite children to slow down, notice the small moments, and find joy in curiosity of the natural world. The combination of lyrical text and rich watercolor illustrations aims to create an immersive, timeless experience that celebrates the magic and wisdom found in gardens, imagination, and childhood.
